Review: Harry Connick Jr. knits together a diverse show of stellar musicianship, and a little comedy, at Meijer Gardens

Judging by his performance at Frederik Meijer Gardens Wednesday evening, you can either move to it, or sit back and appreciate the exquisite musicianship of him and his 13-piece band. You can dance to it, hum with it, get the blues to it, knit to it. Um. Knit to it? Apparently so – four songs into a set that stretched past the two-hour mark, Connick spotted a concertgoer working away with her needle. He couldn’t just let it go. He joked with the woman, who said she was knitting a sweater for her daughter-in-law. “Thank you very much for splitting your attention between knitting a sweater vest and watching my show!” he quipped, and the audience roared with laughter.
